The Roots Of Maytag Kitchen Ranges

The Maytag Company has been around for a very long time and comes with quite a unique history. It has grown over the years to be one of the most well-known and reliable kitchen appliance companies in the world. Like most companies, it started out small and was founded by someone who was relatively unknown but had a vision for a more usable and attractive kitchen for homemakers. Today’s Maytag kitchen ranges and other kitchen appliances are something that millions of people have had in their homes for many, many years.

The Maytag Company started out very small and was focused on just a small region in the state of Iowa. In the early 1890’s, Frederick Louis Maytag and his two brothers started a small company that focused on manufacturing farm machinery. One of the first things that came out of this new company was a threshing machine used for harvesting Iowa crops.

By 1902, the Maytag brothers saw that there were areas in the farmers’ homes that needed to be upgraded also. So, they invented their first home washing machine and introduced to the farmers of Iowa. By 1940, a Maytag grandson, Fred Maytag II, assumed leadership of the business after Frederick Louis Maytag died.

The new Maytag president was involved in aviation endeavors during WWII but also saw a need for other home appliances in addition to washing machines. By 1946, Maytag added ranges and refrigerators to their line of home kitchen appliances. However, the stove business was discontinued in 1955 and the refrigerator business in 1960. The Maytag Company then introduced portable kitchen dishwashers and garbage disposals and focused on them for awhile.

The Maytag kitchen range then reappeared in 1982. The company realized that it was important to provide the American public with a wide variety of kitchen appliances, not just dishwashers. So, it introduced new gas and electric ranges and ovens as well as microwave ovens and built-in cook tops. Maytag has continued to be one of the most popular kitchen appliance companies in America and throughout the world despite its humble beginnings.
